TAP 2012

Restore the Shore

2011 was an incredible year with the inception of the Trail Adoption Plan.  Over 40 trail days and 4400 hours were put into 9 trails on Seymour and in Lynn Valley by 11 Trail Adopters.

2012 promises to be twice the capacity as the revitalization of the Shore continues with 21 Adopters and 18 trails.

The future looks good.

These are your Trail Adopters for 2012:

Arc'teryx - BC Bike Race - BMO-Bank of Montreal - Cycles Lambert -  Different Bikes -  Dizzy Cycles -  Dunbar Cycles Endless Biking -  Giant Bicycles - John Henry Bikes - MEC - Muddbunnies -  North Shore Bike Shop - NS Ride - nsmb.com -  Rocky Mountain Bicycles - Rock Shox - Ryders Eyewear - Shimano - Steed Cycles

Bridge Work Complete on 7th Secret

Thanks to the money raised by Wade's Excellent Adventure, over 170 feet of rotted woodwork has been replaced on the Fromme classic, 7th Secret.  Peter Morrin is also actively repairing eroded sections, improving the ride from top to bottom.

The entry of the new section.

New work is a combination of slat work and 'punch ins' to keep in line with the challenge level on 7th and to save in the amount of slat work necessary and the limited supplies available.  This section is 120 feet in total.

Boogieman Trail Day #4 - Steed Cycles - Final Day!!!

Sunday September 11th brought the fourth and final trail day on Boogieman for the 2011 season. Backed by Steed Cycles and Giant Bicycle Canada, local builder Sean Gerke took on the task of maintaining Boogieman through the NSMBA Trail Adoption Program, and has since hosted four trail days mostly oriented around repairing structures which are on the verge of failing. This trail day’s goal was to replace two bridges after the swamp log which were beginning to rot, not to mention they were bad news in the wet.

Here's our project for the day (taken in the rain for dramatic effect)

DNV Fromme Update November 23

Photo James Healey

The DNV Trail Crew is still hard at work on Fromme Mountain, despite freezing temperatures, working through the final days of their tenure.  A massive amount of improvements have been made over the course of the season, and a number of projects are now near completion in their last days on Fromme.

CBC Closed for the Winter

The CBC trail on Mt. Seymour is now officially closed until the Spring of 2011. With the heavy rains over the past couple weeks, the lower section of the trail has taken a beating and numerous braids have formed. Please respect the closure of CBC.

Happy Holidays from CBC!

During the winter, signs courtesy of the NSMBA are posted alongside the road heading up Mt. Seymour when CBC is closed during this time, typically starting in November and being removed in the Spring depending on conditions. The landowners will be enforcing the closure.

Want to know why CBC is closed during the winter and after heavy rains? Read on below.

The Muddbunnies give Slash a makeover!

On August 11th, volunteers from the NSMBA teamed up with the Muddbunnies to give Slash some well deserved love. Check out the full writeup on the Muddbunnies website!

Loutet Jump Park Work Complete

Bobsled Progress Update (Photos)

A few of us were on our way up Fromme yesterday, so stopped for a few minutes to wander down Bobsled and see how things were going and check out the DNV's work. Here are a few photos, see for yourself:

Danger Tree on Bridle Path

Watch out for a fallen tree on Bridle Path near the entrance to Sticks and Stones. We have notified the landowner and recommend that you avoid this trail until it is removed or falls down completely. The tree is hanging dangerously over the trail and may come down at any moment. If you notice anything while you're on the trails, please contact trails@nsmba.ca!
