Every spring we ramp up our trail crew to get the network in perfect shape for the upcoming season. We’re excited to announce our new hires:

Joe Woywitka has accepted a short-term contract. He’s a lifelong rider of the North Shore and recently completed his Outdoor Recreation Management Diploma at Capilano University. He also holds a Wilderness First Responder certificate.

Nick Tingren is working with us for 1-2 days per week as our part-time trail crew. He’s an experienced tree worker and excited to expand his skillset into an area he’s passionate about, having been mountain biking for over a decade.

Sean Gerke is a long-time NSMBA contributor and will be joining us from 1st June as a full time Trail Crew member. Sean graduated from the Capilano University Mountain Bike Operations program in 2009 and has worked on a number of different trail networks across the province. In addition, he has taken additional courses in technical cutting and falling and chainsaw safety.

Please give them all a warm welcome! Thanks to everyone who applied for the jobs we posted in January’s eNews. We had many strong candidates and it was hard to narrow it down. We use a panel interview approach with a ranking scheme to keep our process as objective as possible. If you’re interested in future opportunities, we look for experienced people who are engaged in the community and share our values in performing volunteer work. First aid certification is a bonus, interaction with the public, the ability and equipment to work in all weather conditions, and general enthusiasm. If you’re keen to apply to future roles, attending one of our Academy sessions and becoming an active Shore Corps member is a great head start.

We hope to add another two summer students to the crew in May!
