Cove Trail Day :: Sunday, June 6th
It was a roaring success. Nearly 60 people were in attendance for the work party on CBC sponsored by Cove Bikes and organized by Cove team rider Barb Haley. Check out Smokes pics at Cove News!

Lots of great swag was given away! Simon and Allan are proud owners each of new MEC Kamikaze Ballistic Hydration Packs.

Lester the Berm Meister building his magic!

The finished product!

Rocks and Dirt

more rocks and dirt!

The trail is then lined with tree fall to keep people riding on the rock and the trail as narrow as possible.

Again, tree fall is used to line the trail to keep people on track.

A rubber strip is used across the trail to direct water off to prevent erosion.

A young guy, first time down CBC! After riding past the area where we worked he had an unfortunate incident and had to be extricated by the Ambulance and Fire Dept.

The femur should be healed in 6 months and since his bike was only 1 month old it should be good to go when he is!

This was a difficult section that was not draining at all. The area where the Gerbil cage and its ride around meet. Cedar logs were used to keep riders out of the mud. Thanks to Martin and his two kids for this work!

MESSAGE FROM BARB:

There is something to be said about a picture being worth a thousand words…….
What more can I say? Without everyone’s participation and all the sponsors support it just wouldn’t have been the same!! THANK YOU!!
…Another successful Trail Maintenance Day on CBC last Sunday (June 6, 2004). This time we concentrated our efforts to the top section of the trail, including the **New Entrance** by filling in the low spots and rehabilitating the drainage of the trail. The result was a buffer, smoother trail in places that really needed it.
Thanks to the approximately 39 volunteers that participated throughout the day and about 20 or so riders that we collectively coerced, or persuaded….into helping for a few minutes (a small toll to ride the trail perhaps??). We truly appreciate your help to those that actually stopped to help out!
And to young Nick, who took a tumble just past our work project and broke his femur….a speedy recovery to you! Hope you are back on your bike ASAP.
On his behalf…props to the Ambulance Crew, North Van Fireboys and the Police Officer that came to Nicks rescue. The rescue crews arrived on scene very quickly and had Nick splinted, packaged and carried to the top with amazing speed!
