The NSMBA is registered as a non-profit society.  In August 2014, Christy Clark proposed a change to the existing BC Society Act that includes an amendment allowing a person “deemed appropriate by the court” to apply for an order on the grounds that a society is carrying on activities that are detrimental to the public interest”.  This means that well-funded opponents of any non-profit could force them into court to defend their work, resulting in unmanageable legal bills.
