The NSMBA Events team met this week to make preparations for the coming 2010 season.  And what a season it’s shaping up to be!

Some crowd pleasers will be back on the plate this year, as well as some long yearned for debuts.  Including a North Shore Race series, Weekly Group Rides and Wade’s Excellent Adventure is back!

Season Opener Party March 26th

Tires will be spinning out of the gate with a season opener party on March 26th at The Bridge Between Pub & Club at 1970 Spicer Rd in North Vancouver.   Tickets will be available at the door for $10 per person or free admission with a 2010 membership.  Drink specials, tons of giveaways and a premiere bike video showing to be announced.

Wade’s Excellent Adventure June 12th

It’s back!   Wade challenges the riders of the Shore to form teams who will battle to ride the trails on Fromme and find the secret Trail of the Shore which leads the winners to the ultimate ride!  Sponsored by Rocky Mountain Bikes, there will be some incredible prizes for the winners, plus a wicked day of riding with some icons of the bike world, including Wade himself! 

This year, there will be two categories, including private teams of minimum 2 riders, and corporate teams from 2-8 riders.  Expect 4-5 laps per team, with 1500 meters or more, of up-down, all around Fromme fun!! 60% of your team must be riding at one time...yes, that means you can take a rest for a lap!!

Cost:
Citizen team: Min 2, Max 10

$20 per person NSMBA member OR $35 per person non member

Corporate team: Min 2, Max 8
$200 per team.

All proceeds go to maintaining the trails of the North Shore Mountains!

Fast & Furious

Monthly DH races on the Shore start in June! Dan Gronross, presently organizing the Arduum DH June 20th, as well as the Smackdown Race down Ned’s for June 6^th at the North Shore Bike Fest, will be working with Jeff Bryson, NSMBA Events Director, who’s no stranger to the race scene himself.  Be a part of the great culture that surrounds our own homegrown race scene in some of the world’s most formidable terrain.  Now you’ll get to throw down and see for real who’s the fastest on the Shore and compete against some local heroes!  Don’t be surprised to see world recognized local pros like Andreas Hesler, Andrew Shandro or Wade Simmons show up-they’re all honorary members of the NSMBA!  Become a member to be a part of the action!

North Shore Gear Swap Jaycee House May 29th - One of the best spots to get a wicked deal!  Drop off your gear to sell on May 27th & 28th.  A portion of each sale goes towards trail maintenance. Frames, forks, tires, complete bikes, protection gear, shoes, clothing, etc. etc. etc.!! Put this on your calendar!

Weekly Rides - the NSMBA is aiming to have Weekly Rides.  Weekly NSMBA member rides will feature local heros who are as stoked about the North Shore mountains as you are.  There will be Beginner, Intermediate, & Advanced rides.  It’s a great chance to meet up with other riders of the same skill and ride some North Shore nuggets!  The Events Team were even brainstorming on creating Grrrlz only rides, and even Singles rides!  Dates forth coming…

Y.A.P. - The future of our community and the sustainability of our sport and our trails lies with the Youth.  Y.A.P. or the Youth Acquisition Program is focussed on fostering a passion for the sport with the kids in the community.  Planned YAP activities include “Tips from the Pros”, Youth Rides, and of course a chance to learn more about environmental sustainability from our eco heros, our trail builders.  From the seed to the fruit, it’s the knowledge we can pass on to the youth in the community that will echo through the ages.

Trails - Trail Days are being planned and dates will be released shortly.  We’re presently assessing trails, finalizing permits, sharpening pick axes and can’t wait to buff and shine our local gold.

Shorefest - June 4,5,6 The Resurgence!  DH racing made its appearance in 2009 and now again in 2010!  Who’s really the fastest down Ned’s?  See if Tyler Morland can defend his title!  Plus there will be a 60km Marathon XC.  Tons of goodness at the Shorefest: Demo bikes, clinics, trail building demos and Sprockids rides for the wee ones!  Registration opens on Feb 16 and there’s limited space so sign up early! http://www.northshorebikefest.com/
