Fall Trail Update

SeveredSeymour

Volunteers refreshed dirt on the landing of the drop below the Penny Lane / Good Sir Martin crossing. Cleared additional drains and continued the underlying bridge structure for the new drainage for the drop.

Sticks and Stones Seymour

Damian McKevitt has been working on replacement of long bridge sections (rotten stringers, rotten/missing slats) with a dirt trail surface, with a shorter bridge planned over the natural drainage feature.

Another 3m of long rotten bridge was removed and replaced with trail tread of mineral soil sourced from the trail surface. The site was cleaned up, including cutting up rotten stringers and stacking slats and other materials. A further 3m of bridge on the west end was removed, with the remaining section to be replaced by a new 3–4m cedar bridge over the drainage. Exposed tread has been rebuilt with mineral soil from the existing trail surface.

TAP Partner: adidas 5.10 / Shore Sirens

Small grade reversal to very muddy corner. Built new water drainage on said corner. The bulk of the time was spent rebuilding a wooden bridge feature, after the skinny. Planted ferns on either side of skinny. Helped drainage of puddles.  Added a few rocks and dirt on exit of wooden features. Thanks for the wood prep Trail Crew!!!!

Wardens Climb – Fromme

In preparations for winter, volunteer work has been completed on Wardens climb with focus on French drain clearing and trail tread maintenance throughout. Work also addressed a small reverse grade section that will require additional work planned for spring.

John DeerSeymour

This Seymour favourite required erosion damage repairs and a host of drainage systems reestablished. Multiple corners and trail sections received fresh dirt. Many existing drains were cleared, and volunteers installed one new drain to improve water management.

CorkscrewSeymour

Reestablished drainage at several key points and repaired multiple eroded trail sections. Widened one corner to improve the riding line and drainage flow. Cleared and widened drains to restore proper water management.

+ Nov 22 session, cleared drains & refreshed dirt to repair erosion. “Sorry the photos are blurry, it was very wet.”

Meat Sweats – Cypress

Prepared trail for Stereo Racing U15/U17 combine DH race. Cleaned up drainage throughout, with focus on Upper Meat Sweats. Reworked takeoffs and landings on qualifier jumps in the upper section. Created a new berm at the bottom of a rooty chute to increase safety and speed for the following section. Refined the qualifier jump and landing.

Mystery DHCypress

November trail day took to Mystery DH, reworking the 3 drops, as well as the installation of a drainage pipe.

Drop # 1 The landing for the drop was reworked slightly. Berm # 1 The berm was completely rebuilt. Drainage ditch was moved from the left to the right of the trail.
Drop # 3 A pipe was added across the trail to deal with the drainage. The pipe was then rocked in, and the whole trail bed was raised. The Big Berm. Completely rebuilt and extended. A small shark fin was added, allowing the rider to jump over the drainage ditch. Great turnout the work on Mystery DH. A big thank you to everyone who came out to dig.

Lower DiggerFromme

TAP Partner: Shimano

Classic Lower Digger received a full refresh from bottom to top on Fromme’s west side (between Braemar and Baden Powell). Excavated and fortified drainage systems, unearthed long-buried culverts and drainage pipes, and repaired major erosion damage. Cleared mud and debris from culverts to restore water flow to creek. Repaired heavily-braked berm with fresh fill. Noted one danger tree (aims off-trail, moderate priority). Successful first Shimano build day with 25 volunteers including many kids and first-timers!

Kirkford – Fromme

An early November trail day focused on drainage improvements across seven key locations. Volunteers tackled a range of maintenance tasks to keep the trails running smoothly through the wet season.

Highlights include:
– Refurbished an existing berm and added a new one for improved flow
– Removed large cedar skids and replaced them with durable mineral soil
– Refurbished a mini-chute with fresh armour, eliminating a rock pinch point that was causing drainage and erosion issues
– Cleared roots, rocks, and excess fill from trail entrances for improved access and better water management

King Of The Shore – Fromme

TAP Partner: Brian Young Real Estate

Is there anything better than cutting in fresh trail? King Of The Shore reroute work continues. Focus on removal of organic material from the re-route sections. Thanks to Brent Hillier and all volunteers.

Lower ExpressoFromme

TAP Partner: Sacré-Davey Engineering

Trail work in preparation for rain. Volunteers winterized bottom third of trail for rainy season. Cleared organic debris from trail surface and restored downslope and trail grades to aid water runoff. Cleared drains and ensured adequate downslope drainage. Repaired eroded areas using rock and mineral soil mixture, and recrowned trail surface.

Boundary Fromme

Maintained trail tread at the rock roll exit. Armoured trail tread with rock and topped with mineral soil.

PennzoilFromme

TAP Partners: Steed Cycles & Santa Cruz Bicycles

Another Steed Cycles’ volunteer day resurfaced trail tread and improved drainage systems throughout Pennzoil. Mineral soil was added and shaped to riding surface to prevent downslope water flow and promote runoff. Focused work around the Braemar trail intersection, adding drainage and material to both trails at the junction. Built up and shaped trail tread to direct water into maintained drainage points.

PangorSeymour

TAP Partners: Giant & Liv Vancouver

Pangor work required a trail junction relocation, shifting approx 3 feet uphill, to align with a natural slope in the hardpan and change from a sharp turn in an abrupt descant to a more gradual one that aligns better with the following rockwork. Cribbing added to raise the trail bed and divert water into a new drainage ditch before the final drop

Penny Lane Seymour

NSMBA Builder and Board of Director Penny Deck attended to some erosion repair on Penny Lane, Repairing an eroded section of the trail, replenishing the trail tread with mineral soil.

Mushroom/ Fungi ClimbSeymour

Continuing construction of new climbing trail. Working to remove vegetation and organic dirt, shaping mineral dirt to form the trail and using rocks for filling holes and retaining walls. Approximate status: 100m of completed trail, 100m of 90-95% complete trail, 100m unstarted trail
