Happy Holidays to you and yours!
2025 has been quite the year, folks. I appreciate everyone who pitched in to keep things rolling along on the North Shore mountains. Thank you!
Supporting our community as the Executive Director of the NSMBA this year has been incredibly rewarding. I’m optimistic about the future of our association, and I’m inspired every day by the dedicated volunteers who love our trail network. I feel so fortunate to be working alongside our incredible team of board, builders, staff, and volunteers.
2025 by the numbers
After some rough calculations, I wanted to share that the NSMBA put over $425,000 directly into trail work in 2025. That’s massive!
It includes money for:
- TAP builders
- Trail crew
- Contract builders
- Trail-related equipment costs
That number doesn’t include all the time and resources for managing operations and ensuring there was money to pay for all that trail work – insurance, advocacy efforts, grants, event management, fundraising, admin work, donor & sponsor relations, and much more. It also doesn’t include the leveraged time and efforts of paid builders to lead volunteers who contributed over 11,000 hours to keep our mountain bike trails in great condition.
Check out our Year End Review to see the impact YOU helped make happen in our 2025 fiscal year!
We share these impact metrics with our land managers, as well as measures of the paid work and volunteer hours spent directly on trails on their lands. We also check in regularly throughout the year with our ongoing efforts, from volunteer trail days to projects completed by our trail crew. During the first week of December I popped into the DNV council meeting to share our year-end metrics with the mayor and council in person. These are just a few examples of advocacy efforts that happen on an ongoing basis in the background. Trust that we’re never not advocating as the voice of the north shore’s mountain bike community.
We’re all in this together – 2026 is going to be a great year!
With immense gratitude,
Cynthia Young
