Fall ’26 Trail Update

Fall maintenance is in full swing across the North Shore. Here’s what NSMBA volunteers, TAP partners and the Trail Crew have been up to since the summer update. Thank you all!

Empress Bypass – Seymour

Two sessions on the Empress Bypass. The first, on the final straight of the DNV section, improved drainage, added a retention board, and trimmed a stump and reshaped the tread so it stays over 3′ wide for adaptive MTB compatibility. The second fixed problem spots in the first left-hand corner: a leaking berm/dike was rebuilt, the uphill ditch re-graded, and rocks that were breaking down the trailbed in the landing zones were pulled and replaced with mineral soil. The pre-corner berm was thickened with gravel and dirt, and topped with ferns and moss to stabilize it long term. – Thanks Dave C and crew!

Griffens – Fromme

All drains cleared of debris and improved ahead of the wet season. The trail is running well, with some tread work still to come this fall and next spring. – Thanks Vince!

Warden’s Climb – Fromme

Drains cleaned out, improved and ready for the fall rains. A tread top-up near the big cedar at the top is planned if the weather cooperates, otherwise it waits for spring. – Thanks Vince!

Bookwus – Fromme

Every drain cleared and maintained for the rainy season. The trail held up well over the summer, and next year it turns 30! – Thanks Vince!

Roadside Attraction – Fromme

A number of community trail days. A tight spot between two rocks that was causing pedal strikes (likely on kids’ bikes) was lifted with rock and topped with mineral soil, the borrow pit renaturalized, and parts of the old bridge buried. – Shout out to Brent and the Community Trail Day volunteers!

Kirkford – Fromme

TAP Partner MEC

A mighty TAP day with 22 volunteers (8 of them first-timers) tackled four problem spots. Berms were rebuilt and brought in closer to the trail for better flow, a stump was cut back from a corner, a trenching straightaway was topped up with mineral soil, and grade reversals were added to shed water. – Thanks Joe, Rouben and the TAP crew!

Pingu– Seymour

TAP Partner Arc’teryx

38 volunteers, 32 of them first-timers, refreshed four jumps and landings on Pingu. Compacted dirt was picked apart and replaced with fresh mineral soil, protruding rocks were removed, a small berm was added after one landing, and the large step-down got a refresh with a slightly wider runout. Drains were cleared above and below each feature. The new dirt was still dry after the day, so the NSMBA Trail Crew is following up with compacting and shaping after rain. – Thanks Joe, Peter, Rouben and the Arc’teryx crew!

Boundary – Fromme

Thanks to the Trail Crew who rebuilt the runout on the teeter totter that was pretty beat up.

Dreamweaver– Fromme

TAP Partner Arc’teryx

A huge refresh of the bottom section. Alignment stayed the same but a ton of gold dirt was moved and spread. A pedal-clipping corner became a proper right-hander, berms were added to awkward corners, eroded sections filled in, and loads of drains installed on a trail that had none. The 200m above Dunell Creek got the biggest dose of mineral soil. – Thanks Trail Crew!

Leppard – Fromme

TAP Partner BGC Engineering

The second bridge on the first climb had a rotten stringer and was sagging. The old ladder bridge was taken apart and hauled off trail, a crib box at the entrance shortened the span, a sleeper was added midspan, and the new bridge was built with fresh stringers and decking. – Thanks Digger

Expresso – Fromme

TAP Partner: MEC

Continued refresh of trail – fill in dirt where drops have become bigger over time, plank replacement on key bridges. – Thanks Digger + Trail Crew!

Lower Digger – Fromme

TAP Partner Shimano

Three berms rebuilt at the bottom of Lower Digger, plus a worn-out section of trail recoated. – Thanks Digger + Trail Crew!

Lower Oilcan – Fromme

Two sessions this late summer. Volunteers adjusted the alignment coming off the rock roll near the end of the trail, removed loose rocks and gravel and topped it with organic dirt for better drainage. Plus: the corner leading into a jump was widened so riders can carry appropriate speed, and erosion on the jump and landing was backfilled. – Thanks Michael, Robin and volunteers!

Boogieman – Seymour

TAP Partner Orbea

15 volunteers (7 first-timers) rebuilt the retention wall and resurfaced the landing on Pile Driver. A drain tile, drain rock and dirt cap went in on the platform above the drop to stop water pooling at the run-in and washing out the landing. – Thanks Daniel L, Dave C, Geoff and the Orbea crew!
