Bobsled Re-Route

Bobsled Re-Route

On Friday night I was getting ready for Saturday’s trail day. I prepped my waterproof gear expecting a rainy day.  Luckily, we woke up to a pretty nice, foggy day. A fantastic turnout of 25 eager volunteers came to help with the new Bobsled reroute.

Richard Juryn Trail Day

Richard Juryn Trail Day

Norco John Henry Bikes had their best turnout ever with 16 people coming to do much needed work on a particularly poorly aligned corner on the Richard Juryn Trail.  Led by Jaclyn Delacroix the NJHB crew completely rebuilt it.  If you’ve ever been on the trail you know the corner we are talking about!  Years of accumulated organic material and what appears to be previous attempts to fix the corner with sticks and the occasional partially rotted log had done nothing but create an area that caught and retained water.

Bobsled Trail Day Nov 3

Bobsled Trail Day Nov 3

A total of 28 people participated in the work on Bobsled this weekend, sponsored by North Shore Bike Shop.  Work will continue to finalize this reroute on Nov 16th for our final trail day of the year.

Led by Pat Podolski, Digger & Irish Pete, a major reroute has been implemented that addresses the steep grade (33%) and subsequent erosion.  The new alignment will be sustainable and more in line with the experience associated with a beginner trail, including an average grade of less than 10%.
