Goal Reached for Heritage Campaign

Goal Reached for Heritage Campaign

The 2015/2016 NSMBA Heritage Campaign has now closed. The NSMBA is proud to announce that we have reached our $12,000 goal. We are grateful for the generosity of our community as it allows us to work on and maintain a challenging heritage trail on the North Shore.

Bridle Path Maintenance to begin…

Bridle Path Maintenance to begin…

In 2013, MEC supported NSMBA efforts to create bypasses, install a kiosk and general maintenance on Bridle Path including structure assessment and replacement.  Maintenance on these sections will commence starting end of January and continue east as time permits.  Please find the work plan HERE. Any questions can be directed to info@nsmba.ca.

January 2016 Trail Update

January 2016 Trail Update

2016 is coming in like a LION!

The Shore is runnin HAWT! And everyone in the Sea to Sky is coming down to play while Squish, Whistler & Pemby are under snow. While Fromme was still under snow, riding pressure was through the roof on Seymour. As trails get busier, please use some common sense. Don't stop in the middle of descents and be sure to take out your earphones when crossing other trails. The trails belong to all of us so please respect others and respect the trails. A little goes a long way – slow down when you see other users, even a friendly "Hallo" and a smile makes people feel warm & fuzzy. Sometimes, there's no hard & fast rule so remember; "Courtesy has right of way."

We're all in this together 🙂

Fromme Update – Dec 10

The NSMBA has received a request to inform our membership and the North Shore riding community of a request to cease the use of trails above the 7th switchback.

This request has been reached by a collaborative process between the private land owner, the trail maintainer/builder and the NSMBA.

Please respect the request.  Your collaboration and respect of these closures will benefit the community in the long term.

The NSMBA ask that we all consider the future, as you act in the now.  A harmonious balance between these two states will enable the Shore to be a lasting legacy.

Thank you for you collaboration,

Vince Beasse

NSMBA President

NEW TRAIL – Pussyfoot

NEW TRAIL – Pussyfoot

Pussyfoot is the newest section of the Seymour climbing route, bypassing a short section of C-Buster just after the junction with RT Connector. It reduces the potential for user conflict by providing a climbing only route that twins a steeper section of C-Buster that has also poor sight lines. NSMBA Relationship Flow Chart

NSMBA Relationship Flow Chart

The NSMBA works with local Land Managers to develop a collaborative approach for trail strategies. Ultimately, the Land Mangers hold approval for these proposals. We work hard to create a strong relationship, best accomplished through positive community efforts. As you can see there are lots of pieces to this puzzle and we do it for the love of the trails!

Fall Trail Report

Fall Trail Report

The NSMBA Trail Crew have been hard at it all summer to make our trails the best they can be.  As of late, Pangor has seen a ton of new wood, Digger is hard at it on Ladies Only and if we add to that the recent work on Upper Oilcan, Pingu, Corkscrew, Pennzoil and 7th Secret things are really coming together.  As promised at the Spring Town Hall meeting, thanks to the hard work in our community by the many builders and our TAP sponsors, we are now adding some bells & whistles to many trails now that most of the heavy lifting has been done.  Look for the trail crew to continue work on Crinkum Crankum to replace expired structures later this month. A big thanks to Digger, Pat Podolski, Sean Gerke and our summer student Lea Zhecheva for taking on the lion's share of the new woodwork. TAP is underway again with the return of moisture. Continued efforts of our TAP build leaders keep the momentum going into the Fall and of course, the NSMBA recognizes and supports those who wish to work independently on trails with Land Manager permission.

Our Family & Youth Day on Empress Bypass saw a great turnout!

On Common Ground

On Common Ground

The North Shore Mountains provide a truly unique opportunity for the residents of the Lower Mainland. Whether you walk out your door in Lynn Valley or drive over a bridge, we have access to mountains like no other metropolitan area.

The North Shore Mountains provide a place to be in nature and enjoy being outdoors for hikers, walkers, runners and riders. We must all remember how fortunate we are for this opportunity. We must strive to care and respect the environment and we must foster a community that is built on the principle of respect for all user groups.

This month we add a section to the NSMBA 101 about trails signage for DNV managed lands. The intent is to provide information in order to foster mutual respect for all.
