Two big news items here:

Bobsled Grand Opening Photos Online

During the Grand Opening of the newly rebuilt Bobsled trail on Fromme, professional photographers Spencer Kovats and Cameron Hunter were there capturing photographs of as many riders as possible. Spencer was positioned near the start of the trail, and Cameron was a bit further down. You can find all of their photos in our new online store.  With a donation of $10 we will provide you with a high resolution version of the your image as our thanks to you.

New Online Store

We have set up a fully functioning on-line store as the delivery mechanism for these photos. This enables us to easily set up and manage the downloads, and also gives us the facilities to sell on-line in the future.

Bobsled Ceremonial Opening Sat September 25th 11am

Join us for the Official Ceremony at 11am on Fromme at the Water Towers!

As many will have noticed this year, the District of North Vancouver's trail crew have been busy doing significant amounts of trail maintenance on Fromme and have also created a new beginner/intermediate masterpiece in Bobsled.

Please join the NSMBA, the DNV including Mayor Walton and the District's trail crew, and Member of Parliament for North Vancouver Andrew Saxton to celebrate the official opening of Bobsled along with all of the great work that has been done this summer. The official ceremony begins at 11am at the water towers, 200m past the yellow gates.  Come for the speeches, enjoy the BBQ, and go for a ride! We'll have guides for beginner and intermediate riders starting at 11:30 and we'll have a photographer on Bobsled to take some shots of you and your friends styling it up! You’re invited to help with a final buffing of the trail at 9am before the event to continue some of the naturalization that we did last week!  Please join us for the official celebration at 11am to let the landowners and the political dignitaries know that we are a large contingent of the greater community who use the trails on Fromme and look forward to contributing in the continued efforts on improving the trail systems on the North Shore.

Volunteers complete trail work on Pre-Reaper

On Saturday, August 21st, we achieved a huge milestone during the Pre-Reaper Trail Day .

It was an incredible team of volunteers that came. Everyone found a role and kept the work flowing. Matt built the cribbing as fast as we could bring the logs in. The crush came in as fast as we could spike the geo into the cribbing, sometimes faster! This was the most productive crew we've had. Thanks to their hard work, the new, sustainable trail is now open from end to end.

Thanks go to Whole Foods for a truly awesome lunch and to Robin for arranging their support. Thanks also to Different Bikes, Lonsdale Quay Bean Around The World, and West Van Parks for their ongoing support. Thanks also to Mike and Roger for all the crush they hauled in between trail days. Amazing work! Finally, an enormous thank you to Alan Bardsley for the years of work he's put into spearheading the work on this trail!

NSMBA, Hoots Inc. and the City of North Vancouver to formalize Loutet Jump Park

Loutet to be given a new beginner line!

In March, the NSMBA applied for and received a Parks and Environment grant from the City of North Vancouver to start the process of formalising the Loutet Jump Park. Many cities across Metro Vancouver have sanctioned skills parks, including Burnaby, Port Moody, Surrey, the District of North Vancouver and the District of West Vancouver.  This will be the City of North Vancouver's first. The jumps at Loutet have been informally maintained over the years by the community, and is an obvious first choice for this project.

The NSMBA and CNV are looking for volunteers to help with Phase I this Friday and Saturday:

VOLUNTEER – Friday August 20, 3-8pm

VOLUNTEER – Saturday August 21, 9am-12pm

VOLUNTEER – Saturday August 21, 12:30-3pm

Pre-Reaper Trail Day – Saturday, June 26th

Pre-Reaper Trail Day – Saturday, June 26th

Thank you to all who supported our work last year on Pre-Reaper. West Vancouver Parks is impressed and the mayor & councillors think very positively about the mountain bike community. We're in a good position for the next BPP development which will impact most of the trails on lower Cypress and shape the future of mtn biking in West Vancouver.

Work on Pre-Reaper is starting up earlier than expected. This year most of the work will be on Saturday events, though Alan Bardsley and a few dedicated volunteers probably still be wheelbarrowing crush the day after.

What: Pre-Reaper Trail Day

When: Saturday, June 26th 2010

Where: Meet at 9am in Parking Lot #5

Richie Schley Adventure Camp with guest coach Wade Simmons

On June 5th & 6th, Wade Simmons and Richie Schley invited the NSMBA to join them at the Richie Schley Adventure Camp at Whistler Bike Park.

First tip Richie gave to NSMBA Pres Mathew Bond: "Don't put your goggles there, your breath's going to fog them up!"

No matter how good you are, unless you’re a top level pro yourself, showing up in countless videos, you could most likely learn a thing or two from two of the most legendary Freeriders in the world.

Critters are in the Woods – Be Careful

With the warmer weather upon us, critter encounters have been abundant on the trails we ride. In the LSCR, there have been at least two separate instances where dogs have been lured and attacked by coyotes, as well as a few daylight cougar sitings.

If you encounter a wild animal, stay calm. Check out the links below on how to respond to a wildlife situation.

New XC Line on Seymour: “Sticks & Stones”

New XC Line on Seymour: “Sticks & Stones”

The NSMBA is proud to announce the completion of a trail reroute on Seymour Mountain.  Thanks to a grant from TD Friends of the Environment Foundation, the NSMBA trail crew has recently completed the first phase of what will be a four phase project ultimately resulting in a five kilometre cross country trail loop on Seymour Mountain. The loop will have sections of varying difficulties, but the main focus will remain on developing XC trails that are fun to ride and will stand the test of time on the North Shore.
